Some not so fun “facts” according to usafacts.org
Did you know that last year, 16.7% of the U.S. Hispanic population was uninsured, the highest rate of any group?
The uninsured rate for Black Americans was 9.6%, Asians 6.2% and white people at 5.2% respectfully.
Obesity rates – Is as much as 47% for both Black and Hispanic Americans (among adults) and the disparities among childhood obesity rates are 26% for Hispanic children ages 2 to 19 are obese, but only 14% of White children are obese.
Black Americans have the highest coronavirus – related death rate during the first wave of the pandemic. Black Americans account for 19.8% of COVID-19 deaths despite comprising of only 13% of the population.
Hispanics were the hardest hit group in the second wave. It’s too early to definitively say which group will have the highest death rate in the third wave, but early data is showing an increase in deaths among White Americans.
To impact change, we must first know and understand the disparities within healthcare among minorities and how to affect change for this generation and future generations.
