Bloomberg Businessweek ran an article on Renee Montgomery in its December 7, 2020 issue highlighting the “Bloomberg 50”. Some of the names were names we’ve heard of promoting the work they are passionate about in causes they give their time to and earn their living doing. Renee Montgomery stood out as she earns her living as point guard for the WMBA’s Atlanta Dream. During the Covid-19 pandemic she made the decision to sit out the season but she didn’t sit on the sidelines of life, she went to work making a difference in her community. While she wasn’t sure how she’d fare financially choosing not to work her 12th year in the league; she called attention to the financial challenge of Morris Brown College. Morris Brown is a historically black college founded in 1881. Renee Montgomery lent her celebrity status to helping the college raise needed funds. She called upon others to support the effort to keep the College’s doors open and regain its accreditation.

Kudos to her for doing work to improve the lives of others without fanfare. For taking the time during this pandemic to do something meaningful to help others. This is an example of how there is a role for everyone to promote positive change. Are you answering the call?
